Alternative? Dialogue! Littering and conflicts of use in public spaces

In the context of the anti-littering campaign in the Canton of Thurgau, a conflict of use issue at the Weinfelden market square was dealt with in the summer of 2010. The trigger was the problem of littering. seecon utilised the technique of “public conversation”. In a series of discussions the various user groups came together initially through personal exchange, getting to know each other and building up a culture of mutual dialogue. As a result, in a further step, joint and long-term solutions for the shared use of the market square could be found. From the insights this project provided, seecon compiled a synthesis report together with the project partners, in which the results were analysed and further recommendations outlined.
